About the Spiritual Center

Community & Culture

The Theologos-Potos Education and Culture Association, Thassos “Hatzigiorgis”, is the principal custodian of the historical memory and cultural heritage of Theologos. Since its founding on April 11, 1977, the association has consistently pursued two goals: firstly, the preservation and promotion of the history and folk traditions of the village, and secondly, active participation in the social and cultural development of the local community.

On January 29, 2004, the municipality of Theologos, part of the municipality of Thassos, was declared the historical seat of the municipality of Thassos (Official Gazette No. B 240/09/2004). The association and residents of Theologos have long demanded that Theologos should be the historical seat of the municipality of Thassos, not just in name, but in fact.

The meeting and cultural center to which we have voluntarily and consciously dedicated ourselves is not a space for political aspirations and goals, nor for economic or other individual and collective interests. It is a center that strives to encompass as many art forms as possible, to perceive as many spiritual stirrings as possible, and to feel and experience as many aspects of culture as possible.

In this context, the cultural association took the initiative to renovate parts of the old community center, which was temporarily leased from the municipality of Thassos, and founded the community and cultural center in 2009. In 2024, after the official leaseback by the municipality of Thassos, the entire building and the surrounding grounds will be completely renovated.

On the ground floor, which serves as an exhibition space, there is now an exhibition of old photographs and an original exhibition – one of the few in Greece – of shells belonging to the collector Dr. Dimitrios Intze, who donated them to the cultural association.

On the first floor of the building are the association's office, the room for storing the dance association's costumes, the library, the meeting and performance room, which we name after the ecumenical writer of our village, Vasilis Vasilikos.
